These slides present some of the alternative names that people may have some across for structural equation modelling. One problem with this is that all of the names sound rather technical and difficult. This makes SEM seem like a much more difficult topic than it actually is.
Path analysis is a much more user friendly term, but it sometimes path analysis can be used to refer to regression-based techniques, rather than to true SEM.
One of the first programs available to carry out SEM was LISREL, written by Jöreskog and Sörbom. Because LISREL was one of the first programs available SEM is sometimes referred to as LISREL analysis, this is not the case, and never really has been the case.
